The Uganda Equator

The Uganda Equator : An equator by definition is an imaginary line that divides the earth into two regions the north hemisphere and south hemisphere. Its also called the line of zero degrees. The Uganda equator is located in kayabwe, mpigi district and its approximately 72kilometers away from Kampala.

While on an Uganda gorilla safari to the western part of Uganda especially Uganda national parks always have a stop at the equator when returning or heading to Queen Elizabeth National Park for Uganda Wildlife Safaris, Mgahinga Gorilla National Park for Uganda Gorilla Trekking Tours, Bwindi impenetrable National Park to trek Gorillas, lake Mburo national park and lake bunyonyi as one relaxes from the long trip and even take some photos while enjoying exciting activities such as balancing an egg on a nail at the Intiman solar museum among others.

While on the equator, one can balance with one foot at the southern hemisphere and the other on the northern hemisphere or stand with legs of different sides. The person will feel much lighter but this doesn’t mean that weight is lost this is because the gravitational force of the earth is less than at the poles. When one leaves the equator the body weight returns to normal but will have reduced by 3 percent

The temperatures and climate at the equator are moist and mild with a lot of rainfall during the wet season of the year. For the temperatures remain constant throughout the year. At the equator, the sun is overhead at noon and experiences the same hours of day and night because of refraction of the sun whereas the water passes down anti-clockwise in the northern hemisphere and clockwise in the southern hemisphere due to earths rotation on moving objects.

Other equators in Uganda to thrill while on Uganda Safaris include; the equator in queen Elizabeth which is also a nice place with a lot of experiences.

The water appears to run down the plughole on either direction whereas the water flows anti clockwise in the north hemisphere and clockwise in the southern hemisphere.

The Coriolis effect explains how objects in motion deflect to the right in the northern hemisphere and to the left in the south due to the force an acceleration imparted by the earth’s rotation

The Coriolis effect makes the weather systems like hurricanes to move in different directions in different hemisphere

There’s also an experiment of balancing an egg on the nail. Various people believe that this only happens at the equator

Due to the Coriolis effect the stronger the gravity which results to altitude.

There many art, craft and souvenir sold in craft shops at the equator. Various items here are handmade products by the people around the area. For example, printed t-shirts with words like I crossed the Uganda equator, Uganda the pearl of Africa among others.
